Greetings, RAM FAM!
Welcome to Gorham Middle School, home of the Rams! My name is Lucas Witham and it is with great honor that I introduce myself to you as the Principal of Gorham Middle School! Although I was raised in a small town in central Maine, my journey in education started in Virginia, where I spent several years as a High School Science Teacher, as well as a Varsity Basketball and Football Coach. Following several years of teaching and coaching, I transitioned into to a more formal leadership position as an Assistant Principal in Virginia, where I served for four years. During that time, I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to lead the division's Summer Academy for Secondary Schools as Principal.
In 2023, my family and I made the decision to make the move back to Maine and serve the people back home. Before transitioning into the role as Principal of Gorham Middle School, I served as the school's Assistant Principal for the 2023-2024 SY. It is an honor and a privilege that after a year, I am able to increase my capacity to serve the students, staff, and families that make up this community!
When I am not at work or spending time with my family, I am most likely out for a run, finding somewhere to play basketball, or watching the Celtics, Red Sox, or Commanders on TV, depending on the season!
I'm incredibly excited about what we'll achieve together at Gorham Middle School! It's a true honor to keep working alongside this amazing school and community as we continue to move forward!

Hello Gorham Middle School students and community!
My name is Vanessa Nickerson, and I have the absolute pleasure of being Gorham Middle School’s new Assistant Principal. It has been an honor to be working in the Gorham schools for the past three years as an Instructional Strategist, and I look forward to serving the community in this new role this year!
I was born and raised in Southern Maine, and attended University of Southern Maine for all my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I recently completed my Certificate of Advanced Study through USM in Educational Leadership. I have worked in education for the past 15 years. The first part of my career was spent in special purpose private schools, when I then transitioned to public schools in 2016. In 2021, I was fortunate enough to begin my work in Gorham schools, first at Gorham High School and this past year at Gorham Middle School.
Outside of work, much of my time revolves around my two daughters. We enjoy being outside and active. As often as possible, we do anything that can involve our golden retriever, Greta. (You may remember or recognize her from the halls of GMS as she is a Gorham Schools therapy dog!) My favorite things range from sitting and reading a book, to hiking in the White Mountains, and everything in between.
I am extremely proud to be serving as Gorham Middle School’s Assistant Principal and I am very much looking forward to the school year ahead.
